Leilani Bishop

WHO: Leilani Bishop — Vogue cover girl and Creator of Leilani Bishop Fragrance Oils.
WHY SHE’S FOXY: Besides being a supermodel whose tear-streaked face was smeared on the cover of Hole’s "Live Through This" album, she is also a yogi and entrepreneur who recently launched a fragrance line inspired by her travels and childhood in Hawaii.

ON LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS: “Communication is so important. It’s all about love and respect for your partner. When you respect them for who they are, you can get through it together when things are tough.”

ON HER TRANSITION FROM MODEL TO ENTREPRENEUR: "I've always loved business anyway —  and I wanted to be able to capitalize on my name. I knew I wanted to be my own boss but it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. I grew up around flowers, and one day in Hawaii and my friend said 'you should start a fragrance line.' That planted the seed. I wanted to create an oil that was natural and organic but as luxury as high-end perfume. All the packaging is designed after opaline glass from the french napoleon era. I wanted it to be like a piece of jewelry."

ON LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS: “Communication is so important. It’s all about love and respect for your partner. When you respect them for who they are, you can get through it together when things are tough.”

HER WEDDING LOOK: “I went barefoot with a Galliano dress. Later on I saw Cate Blanchett in the same dress, only it was black.”

RANDOM WEDDING STORY: “My mom is an astrologer and I was told I have a connection to the goddess of fire. On my wedding day, right before the ceremony, in the corner of the lawn, a huge fire started out of nowhere. My Mom starting screaming that it was a sign from the gods. I totally thought so too — I’m a very spiritual person. Then I was walking down the aisle and my Dad whispered to me that he started the fire accidentally with his cigarette!”

ON BRIDAL ICONS: “Most of them are from the sixties and seventies — like Lauren Bacall and Faye Dunaway. I love their whole sexy, streamlined look.”

ON BRIDAL FAUX PAS: “Makeup. I feel like brides think it’s their day to be on stage, to be the princess. But the makeup shouldn’t hide you or take away from your natural beauty. Less is seriously more. Wear a scent that’s familiar too. Plus, scent is tied to memory —  I had this one oil I always wore throughout my pregnancy, and now whenever I smell it I literally feel pregnant.”

ON BEING THE CRAZY MASCARA BEAUTY QUEEN ON ‘LIVE THROUGH THIS’: “It was so iconic, such a cool thing to be a part of. I remember going to MTV’s Video Music Awards with Courtney Love in a white dress. Total madness.”

FAVE LOVE MOVIE: "'Dirty Dancing'"

FAVE LOVE POEM: "Rumi poems"

FAVE LOVE SONG: "'At Last' by Etta James"

HER FANTASY WEDDING: "Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. I would wear a caftan i would take my dad as my date. Definitely would spend the after party drinking whiskey with Janis."
