Libby + Donovan
Donovan was friends with my sister and he saw a pic of us on Facebook on my birthday and asked me out for a birthday drink. He said he had love at first sight! At the time, I was living in Texas and he was in California, so we started talking on the phone as friends and about a month later he came to visit. Then it was on! I first saw him on tv doing a modeling shoot with a girl when I was in 3rd grade and got really jealous. Furious. I remember everything about it, haha. But it wasn't until twenty-one years later in the Austin airport that I truly fell for him. I was nervous because he was older but once he kissed me and held hands I swooned for days.
I immediately went on to New York and then to LA with him and we never parted ways. Everything was very intense because our first date was a whole weekend together. We stayed at the haunted Driskill hotel.
Like I said, he was older than other guys I had dated, but I learned so much from him and continue to. He is so loving and kind. I always like funny, artsy men. Donovan was such a caretaker and he made me feel really safe from the beginning. I was nervous because he had a daughter and I knew that would have some challenges, but we turned out to be great friends.
When I was about to get on my plane to go back to Texas and he was leaving for LA, I had a panic attack because I didn't want to lose him and he canceled my flight and put me on his. I knew then that he was "the one."
We always talked about it marriage, but didn't want to rush until his daughter was ready. About a year into our relationship, we were vacationing in Europe when his daughter started pushing for it. They picked out my ring and both presented it in the lounge of The Chiltern Hotel. It is an antique ring from the 30's with and old European cut diamond and hand etching on the sides.
I was super excited to have a big blowout wedding asap, so my mom flew out and she, my sister and I went dress shopping. I got very nervous at Monique Lhuillier because my stomach was pooching out. I reluctantly took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant! I decided to speed up the process and be a pregnant bride in a cute little Laurel Canyon backyard ceremony. However, as the wedding date and my due date approached, the stress was overwhelming and I was like, "fuck weddings!" We had two Wiccan priestesses marry us in a non-legal spiritual Union when I was about to pop. However, once the baby came, I still longed to do a traditional Jewish wedding with all our friends and family. Once the baby came and I settled into mommy life, I hired my old friends at Sterling Social to handle EVERYTHING. Angela and Erin are total pros and made my dreams come true.
We had the wedding at my favorite hotel, The Sunset Tower. I love the Art Deco design and it's rich old Hollywood history. Luckily, the weather was perfect. Te ceremony took place by the pool outside, looking over thousands of LA sparkling lights. After, we moved inside for the band and speeches. There were over 300 people there.
People said it looked like a beauty pageant when my fifteen gorgeous bridesmaids came down the aisle, haha! It was also a very special experience to have my baby watching us be married.
I did not write my own vows for the legal ceremony. I poured my heart out in the vows in the Joshua tree ceremony, which I found embarrassing in front of only five people and our dog. The morning of the wedding I woke up in bed with my future husband and future step daughter. We all got room service and massages.
My dad walked me down the aisle to a string quartet playing "Once Upon A Dream" from "Sleeping Beauty", my favorite fairy tale as a child. I went full princess that night.
In addition to my gorgeous bridesmaids in blush Zimmerman gowns, my husband had his best friends and my brothers in navy blue tuxedos. Our mothers wore gold. My sister wore a stunning, custom Shareen dress in pale pink silk. It was very old Hollywood. And my stepdaughter wore a two piece pale pink Reformation dress. She and the flower girls all wore flower crowns by Flower Girl Los Angeles, who also did the flowers.
We danced all night to my husbands band. Then, my friend Frankie DJed into the morning in one of the suites. We went to Esalen in Big Sur, super hippie style for the honeymoon.
