I didn’t know that Jesse had never had sushi before; he ended up puking on the side of the road after dropping me off.

He was an old friend’s little brother. We ended up hanging out at a college party, which was funny because I hadn’t hung out with his sister in years. Our first date was at a sushi place, but I didn’t know that Jesse had never had sushi before. I guess he overdid it and ended up puking on the side of the road after he dropped me off. He didn’t tell me that detail for a few years.

Right away, I noticed that he was a total sweetheart and such a gentleman. I realized he was “the one” when I saw him with his nieces. I loved his commitment to his family. We dated for a million years. I kind of always knew we were going to get married, I just didn’t know when.

One morning he made me breakfast. He doesn't cook much so it was a big deal. I'm not a morning person either, so I was really confused when he woke me up. He served fried chicken and waffles. The ring was on the fork. I didn't realize what was happening until I looked behind me and he was on one knee.

We got married in Sayulita, Mexico with fifty close friends and family members. It was a nice day, cooler and less humid then it had been. The night before our wedding, my sister, cousins and I were up laughing until 4am.  I slept in, had half a PB&J, and then hit the beach.

The wedding went off without a hitch, and I was sitting by the bonfire with my best friend and she noticed a crowd of people crawling on the floor.  She looked at me and was like, "Ummmm, I'll be right back. I think Jesse..." and she took off.  I look over and his little sister yells to me, "Don't worry, Vy. Everything's cool!"

Jesse had been spinning his wedding band and dropped it in the sand, which is so Jesse. It took a good fifteen minutes of everyone crawling around in the sand until someone found it. We were so lucky.
