We won a dream wedding at the Four Season Resort in Maui, HI.

We originally met in graduate school, but we got to know each other through friends at church. When I first saw LG in class, I thought he was dressed nice and put together.


Our first date was super simple and very easy. We went to a little restaurant on the water. We sat and chatted like we've known each other for ever. I had this hunch that he was the one from the start.

 

I had fallen asleep on his couch and he was playing with my hair when he whispered in my ear that he loved me. I was only half asleep and I whispered back that I loved him too.

We both knew from the beginning that marriage was something we both wanted. Having a strong marriage and changing the culture of dysfunction was something we discussed frequently and I was super excited to have a wedding! But I wasn't one to want a lavish, extravagant wedding. I would of been happy marrying my guy in a shack, wearing a bag. When LG proposed, I was surprised—It was quicker than I thought. We had only known each other for about a year and had been dating for five months.

 

We won a dream wedding at the Four Season Resort in Maui, HI. Part of wedding package was a wedding planner, THANK GOD. The weather was perfect—it was breezy and 75 degrees of perfection. The morning of our wedding, I got up really early and took a long, refreshing, relaxing run through the island.

My dad walked me down the aisle to a harpist and a violinist playing Your Love is Extravagant.


Having been a bridesmaid many times, I know the stress—I didn't want to do that to my girls. Having a destination wedding is tricky, and I didn't want to obligate anyone. Even though I didn't technically have bridesmaids, three of my best friends who came and all sat in the front wearing floral dresses.

For dinner, we had upcountry butter lettuce, ona farms papaya, marcoma almonds, Maui goat cheese with a milk and honey nectar dressing followed by, Hawaiian style rotisserie chicken, succatash, Molokai sweet potato purée, ginger and sweet soy. For dessert, we had a dark chocolate bar, hazelnut bar, chocolate Tuile, hazelnut ice cream with a vanilla sponge cake topped with lemon buttercream icing.

Our reception was on the Ocean Front Lawn where no dancing was allowed, but we still danced some. After the reception, we carried on and had a ball staying in Hawaii for an extra week to explore the island.
