Casey + Sean

One night on the couch, he looked at me and said, “let’s go look at some rings.”

Sean and I met at an improv class in 2012—  he had a girlfriend at the time. Our interactions mostly consisted of me staring at him for a beat too long.

A year later, at a Halloween party, we ran into each other again.  Sean was now single and dressed as The Situation from Jersey Shore complete with plastic six-pack abs and I was in an orange pumpkin wig. I asked him out via Facebook a few weeks later.

Sean took me to a bar called Wilfie and Nell because his friend suggested it as a “good first date spot.” Verdict: it’s not. He showed up in a hoodie and a backpack, but I was too smitten to be offended by his total lack of effort.

He told me he loved me on my birthday, 8 months after our first date. I had almost blurted it out about 50 times by then, but there was no way I was going to say it first.

One night on the couch, he looked at me and said, “let’s go look at some rings.”

At a surprise 30th birthday party, Sean asked me to stand up with him during, dessert so he could make a toast. I had a mouth full of chocolate chip cookie, and he was shaking. Next thing I knew he was down on a knee, holding a Polly Wales ring.

The wedding wasin Montauk.

My dad walked me down the aisle to a live guitarist from a Brazilian band — honestly I didn’t even notice, I was in the zone.

We went a little crazy with the wedding party thing — we each had 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen. In hindsight, it made for some ridiculous looking photos. My bridesmaids wore their choice of dress from Fame and Partners, and Sean’s groomsmen wore gray suits.

Sean and I have each lost a brother, so it was important to us that they were represented. Sean made pocket squares with my brother’s artwork on them, and for his late brother Jimmy, who was a radio DJ, he gave all of his groomsmen vintage microphone lapel pins. His 14 year old nephew, Jimmy’s son, was his best man — a special and emotional moment for everyone.

Our wedding was catered by the hotel restaurant, Scarpetta Beach. We did a family style appetizer course with a choice of lamb, chicken or salmon for main courses. Everyone says you don’t eat at your own wedding, but I’m pretty sure I ate two entrees.

Oh man, was there dancing. I’m not usually the first one on the dance floor, but something took over my body and I barely sat down the entire night.

Our close friends got married in the south of France a week after us. We kicked off our honeymoon by celebrating their wedding in Eze, spending the week in a villa with 3 other couples, then headed off on our own to Positano and Rome.
