Katie + Troy
We met working on a television show in Los Angeles. He was in casting and I was in post production. I remember on my first day we met in the kitchen and we talked about his coffee mug. He had a great smile and I loved his eyes. After a year I began to think of him as more than "the nice casting guy who works down the hall".
It took Troy about six months to catch up to me after I knew I had feelings for him. He asked me to get a milkshake with him after work. I said yes instantly. I didn't know this was a date and I'm not sure if he did but the night ended with him kissing me around midnight at my car outside our office. All I said was "finally". We then continued to make out under the streetlight for what felt like two hours. It was all very high school and amazing.
I was dropping him off at his house after work one day when I wanted to tell him I loved him but had never said it before. Instead, I picked a fight with him because I didn't know what else to do. He knew what I wanted to say the whole time and kept telling me, "Just say it, it will be okay, I promise". I kept resisting. Finally he said, "Well, I have something to tell you too, I love you!"
We had been dating a little over a year when he proposed and it was a total surprise. He told me one day to go shopping for an upcoming wedding we were traveling to and he would stay home and cook dinner. We had gotten into a little argument earlier in the week so I thought he was just trying to be sweet and make it up to me. After getting home, I walked into our place and it was completely dark with the only light coming from the hundreds of candles he had lit all around our apartment. He was standing in the middle of the room with a suit and tie on and candles surrounding him. He was on one knee in front of me holding a beautiful custom ring and asking if I’d be his wife.
We had 200 guests at a whiskey distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan. The morning of, my maid of honor and bridesmaids came to our suite in their pajamas along with a few other loved ones. We spend the morning getting ready, playing music, and enjoying cocktails. It was a very relaxed vibe full of love. Troy and his groomsmen woke up and had a barbecue before getting ready for the big day.
The bridesmaids wore an emerald green velvet convertible dress styled any way they pleased and the groomsmen wore slim fit classic black suits and ties. I wrote my vows, while Troy insisted on winging it. He stood up across from me and just said what was on his heart in that moment.
For dinner we had an assortment of delicious salads along with seared sea scallops, garlic & maple glazed salmon, and horseradish crusted prime rib. We squeezed every second out of the night. When midnight came around we felt the party had just reached its peak so we moved it to a local bar.
We went to Santorini for our honeymoon and it was perfect. I would not change one thing.
