Jhoanna + Josh
Josh and I met 4 years ago in Venice Beach, CA. We were set up by a couple friends and we fell in love. We challenge each other, inspire one another, and have fun together. Whether traveling the world or sitting at home watching TV, we treasure time spent together – he’s my best friend.
The idea of elopement came into fruition once we began to assemble the costs of throwing a wedding in LA. Although our parents were willing, we wanted to travel and instead put the money from our families towards buying a house. After some convincing, they came around to the concept and were actually impressed with our decision.
The initial plan was to elope in Europe– the perfect excuse to travel through Europe for a month. It evolved into a slightly larger ceremony with 20 of our closets friends who met us in San Sebastian for a celebration.
As the RSVP list grew in numbers, we realized we couldn’t design it all on our own. I was lucky to find our amazing planners: Meri & Mati, San Sebastian natives who run Meri Casamentera. We explained our vision which was romantic and authentic to Spain. We wanted delicious tapas style food, and lots of wine, lace, gold detail, string lights, lush greens and a Spanish guitarist. Plus, pops of red roses and carnations (the Spanish flower).
For my ceremony I wore a vintage, 1970 Victor Costa dress found at Happy Isles in Hollywood, CA. From the moment I put it on, I knew it was right. I imagined my wedding to be romantic and traditional to Spain — this dress encapsulated both. I accessorized with ornate Swarovski crystal and pearl Dolce & Gabbana earrings. My hair and makeup were simple. After the ceremony I changed into my Stone Fox Bride Lucinda dress and sparkly earrings from Intermix.
When we returned to California, our families came out to Palm Springs for the signing of our marriage license, followed by champagne.
