Lauren + Frances

After we got together, we knew immediately that this was it. We’ve spent every day with the intention of being with each other forever.

I met Lauren playing basketball when she joined the NYC Gay Basketball League. I had been playing for a while and was one of the captains. I chose Lauren for my team because I thought she was good (first pick!) but also thought she looked nice. We’ve played on the same team since. For our first date we met at the Highline and walked around. The park hadn’t been expanded yet so I think we walked it a couple of times back and forth so that it wouldn’t end.

We spent several months as just friends. I do remember seeing Fran for the first time and she stuck out as someone I had a feeling I was going to know. After we got together, we knew immediately that this was it. We’ve spent every day with the intention of being with each other forever. Fran proposed and the only thing that she wanted was for it to be a big surprise. We went out to Austin where Lauren is from and stayed at Lauren’s favorite hotel, the Hotel San Jose. We had a perfect day hiking and hanging out by the lake and when we got back to the hotel Fran proposed.

We got married at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. We got married in July so it was hot, but our venue was right on the water so there was a nice breeze. One table started the wave during dinner. Our wedding coordinator said in all of his years he never saw the wave at a wedding. There was so much dancing! The party lasted past 1:00am.
